Alison’s paintings capture the patterns and shapes she observes in the landscape. She draws inspiration from the wooded landscapes surrounding her home, finding endless fascination in their changing forms, the spaces between them, and their quiet presence. The interconnecting shapes of the fields, hills, rivers and paths all feed into her work.

Most paintings start from a walk. Alison records the landscape in photographs, cropping the images to find shapes and patterns to work with. In the studio, she builds up the work in layers, adding and scraping back paint, allowing textures and rhythms to emerge and evolve. The paintings develop instinctively as she adds depth, often letting the paint and colour guide the outcome.

Her work is not a direct representation of landscape but a response to the changing seasons and passage of nature. The fluidity of the paints and mediums she uses encourages play, welcoming chance, texture, and the unexpected.
